Banishing Waste and Creating WealthLean production, Lean manufacturing. The expression Lean is used for description of efforts to eliminate losses and waste in corporate processes, as well as for denoting of tools, which are used to achieve this goal.
Lean attitude is not that new. Companies always tried to be efficient. Efficiency came under real pressure after dramatic economic and market changes in the last two decades. Pressure was escalated mainly by the fact that supply dominates demand.
Lean methods and tools were pioneered by Toyota, which is well known for its systematical and tireless attitude to loss and waste elimination. Toyota Production System is considered a world benchmark of perfect manufacturing. Today the tools and techniques of loss and waste elimination are generally known and Toyota example is followed by every organization, that wants to increase its performance. Many of the Lean tools are frequently used to slim down patulous, and often hardly visible administrative processes. Just imagine the processes used in many government institutions.
